Asteroids

In addition of the eight principal planets, they are thousands of minors objects orbiting around the Sun, the are asteroids. Most of them are locate in the asteroids belt.

It is between Mars and Jupiter where you can find the asteroids belt.

Asteroids are some rocks fragments who orbiting around the Sun. The origine may be one or some small planets who had explode or some residue in the formation of the solar system.

Their size is variable, to a sand grain to some kilometers of diameter. The estimate number is 300 000.

Some of them come sometime down to the terestrial orbit. At some every hundred of thousand of years, an medium size asteroid can hit the Earth and cause a lot of damage.

The bigger asteroid is Ceres with a diameter of 1000 kilometers. Vesta, with a diameter a little more then 500 kilometers can be enought shining to be observ with a single eye. With binoculars, you can naturally observ a lot of them if you know where to observ.

If a professional or an amateur astronomers take a picture with a camera or a motorise telescope who fallow the movement of the stars in the sky, stars will look like of some lumnious points, but asteroids, if they are some, will make small lumnious lines because they are moving faster then the stars in the dark sky.

We assing a name an a number to the asteroids. It may be an astronomer, a personnality, location, etc...

More then 120 000 asteroids had been identify.
